School Board Minutes 03/03/2016

                                                                                March 3, 2016
                        

                        A meeting of the Berlin Board of Education was held in the Berlin High School library at 6:00 p.m. Present for the meeting were Nicole Plourde, Lynn Moore, Denise Valerino, Scott Losier, Corinne Cascadden, Bryan Lamirande, Amy Huter, Kevin Carpenter, Tim Forestall, Julie King, Dan Record, Martha Miller, Bob Thompson, Roland and Cheryl Pinette, Autie Hamilton, and a member of the press.

MINUTES         On a motion by Lynn Moore, seconded by Denise Valerino, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the February 18, 2016 meeting, public session and nonpublic sessions as amended. The motion passed unanimously.

WARRANTS                On a motion by Lynn Moore, seconded by Scott Losier, the Board voted to approve the warrant dated, March 7, 2016 for the amount of $272,636.62. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.

FINANCIAL REPORT        The Board reviewed and approved the financial report.
        
COMMENTS                None

VISION & MISSION        On a motion by Lynn Moore, seconded by Scott Losier the Board voted to approve the District Vision and Mission Statement as presented. The motion passed unanimously.           

SUPER’S REPORT        The Superintendent informed the Board of the following issues:

  • District Team Leadership – presented what the team is working on with assistance from a facilitator, and how often the team meets. Julie King added that having parental input is very valuable along with knowing what the other schools are doing.
  • COPsync911 – what the software is, how it works, and how much it will cost
  • Youth Risk Behavior Survey – results from use of heroin decreased from 6.1% to 3.2%, students using alcohol decreased from 53% to 39%. Both results are very positive and reflective of all the community’s efforts.
  • Budget presentation to the City Council will be on Wednesday, March 9, 2016.
COMMENTS                The press asked for clarification on the Risk Behavior Survey data.

MEMBER BUSINESS Denise Valerino requested an update on a Grade 3 & 4 traveling basketball team. More information will be available at the next meeting.

NON-PUBLIC              The Board consensus was that a nonpublic session was not required at this meeting.      

ADJOURN         On a motion by Denise Valerino, seconded by Lynn Moore, the Board voted to adjourn it’s meeting at 6:25 p.m. The motion passed unanimously.
